Kids Training with UKIS

Why Soccer Camps Are Great for Kids

  1. Keep Kids Active and Healthy
Seattle in the summertime is the best place on earth, and soccer camps give kids a chance to run, kick, and play in the fresh Seattle air. Physical activity is essential for their health, and soccer provides a fun way to stay fit.
  2. Build Confidence and Leadership
With the guidance from our UKIS coaches, kids will gain confidence as they develop new skills and improve their game. Soccer also teaches valuable leadership and teamwork skills, helping them grow both on and off the field.
  3. Create Friendships and Community
Soccer is a great way to keep in touch with school friends in an organized and fun way, while fostering new friendships and a sense of community. Shared experiences on the field often lead to bonds that last far beyond the summer.

From MOD to Champions to Life Long Friends: A 12-Year Soccer Journey Comes to an End

As we approach the final whistle of an era, we look back on a wonderful journey that began in the 2010s, when four young teams stepped onto the field in the MOD league, years before the 'Lil Royals would become our club identity for the U6/U7’s. Those original teams – the Hornets (Coach Derek Laband), Tigers (Coach Richard Starnes/John Eversole), Red Hawks (Coach Eric Bodenman), and the Snorting Wolves (Coach Chris Bifone) – laid the foundation for what would become a wonderful soccer legacy on Queen Anne.

The story actually begins even earlier for some of our players, who first became teammates at Sweet Pea Cottage before continuing their journey together through John Hay and Coe Elementary. These early bonds would prove instrumental in building the team chemistry that would define our success for years to come.

Our journey has been marked by evolution and growth. In 2017, the Tigers and Wolves merged, carrying forward the Wolves name. They joined forces with the Hornets in 2019, further strengthening our program. In 2021, we welcomed the Red Hawk’s team into our family, expanding our community even further.

One of our proudest moments came in 2018 when, after multiple nerve-wracking penalty shootouts throughout the tournament, we dominated the city finals with a decisive 3-0 victory over Ballard. But perhaps more meaningful than the trophies were the friendships forged along the way.

As other clubs' older teams began to dissolve, we opened our arms to players from Woodlands, Ballard, and – in a twist that would have once seemed unthinkable – even Magnolia! Our players dispersed to various high schools – Lincoln, Ballard, Bishop Blanchet, and Seattle Prep – but the soccer field remained their common ground, where they brought new friends to join our ever-growing family.

Even COVID-19 couldn't dampen our spirit. In fact, 2021 became one of our most memorable seasons, as three teams of different ages and genders transformed Big Howe into the unofficial "Social Club Queen Anne" every Wednesday. These sessions became a community gathering point, with friends regularly dropping by to join the fun (the presence of Coach Yarrow's U15 girls team that year might have had something to do with the increased attendance!).

As Seattle's youth soccer landscape evolved, we adapted, joining the WYS leagues and expanding our horizons beyond the city limits. Last season epitomized our competitive spirit when we won what we thought was a league-deciding final game. Though an administrative twist ultimately awarded the title elsewhere, our head-to-head victory over ‘champions’, Ballard, remained a sweet consolation.

Now, as we approach our final season together, we celebrate not just the victories and championships, but the incredible community we've built. From those early MOD league days to our current status as one of Seattle's longest-running youth soccer families, our journey has been about more than just soccer – it's been about building lasting friendships, showing resilience in the face of challenges, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

With pride and gratitude,
Eric, Derek, Chris, John and Richard

Disclaimer: Some dates in our history may vary slightly – like all great stories, each player, parent, and coach seems to remember things a bit differently, but the memories and friendships remain crystal clear.

Fall 2021 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Fall 2021 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Fall soccer registration is open and I'm as excited as ever to get our community back on our fields and playing again. As a dad and as an ambassador of the sport, nothing is more important than seeing kids playing soccer again, competing to be their best, while their families cheer them on.

This Fall we anticipate we'll be playing soccer all across Seattle. Restriction on outdoor activities is shifting and practices, games, and the tournament should be back next season. Our Association is working hard to ensure Soccer can return for everyone and we're working with the state, schools, and parks to make sure we are following all guidelines and protocols.

This season we are pleased to announce an additional all-gender division for our U8/U9 Mod Intraleague and will play against other all-gender teams from Ballard, Woodland, and Lake City. Many of our parents have children that identify as gender non-binary and these new teams offer a place for every player whether you want to play with your best friend, or prefer a cross-gender team for any reason. Let us know during registration which division you wish to play. These teams aren’t possible without parent and community volunteers, so please consider becoming an SCQA coach.

We can't wait to see you this fall and are excited to see you all return.

NEW ALL-GENDER DIVISIONS FOR QUEEN ANNE YOUTH SOCCER PLAYERS

NEW ALL-GENDER DIVISIONS FOR QUEEN ANNE YOUTH SOCCER PLAYERS

Beginning in the Fall 2021 season, we’re excited to introduce all-gender team options for our U6 - U9 in-house leagues, alongside our neighbor clubs of Ballard, Woodland, and Lake City. For our players who identify as gender non-binary, or players who would prefer playing on an all-gender team for any reason, these teams are a great option for them to play soccer this fall while creating a healthy atmosphere for all our players to develop as people. If you have any questions about team placement for your player, contact us. We recognize each player's situation is different and we are here to help.

Our U6 & U7 players will play games with other Queen Anne teams on Saturdays, and our U8 & U9 teams will compete with teams within the clubs of Ballard, Queen Anne, Woodland, and Lake City. Teams will be organized by Girl, Boy, and All-Gender and will play in their respective divisions.

All our teams are driven by volunteer coaches. In addition to our Soccer coaching materials, we will provide information and materials more specific to gender identity and expression so that our coaches have confidence with the terminology and background to these issues.

How registration works: Once in the registration process, we will ask if you would like to play on a Boy, Girl, or All-Gender team. Select one and complete registration. We will try to place players on teams based on this selection.

Our Registration for Fall Leagues runs May 8th - July 4 or until teams are full. Join us for an amazing soccer season.
